My Dad

Recently my Uncle John Lunt passed away. My Mom and Dad flew in for the funeral and we all sat there and listened to what a wonderful man John was- for example he would wake up at 430am to fix biscuits and gravy for breakfast. After hearing all the stories about my Uncle John my Dad started to wonder (worry) about what we would say about him. My Dad wasn't the kind of Dad that would fix us breakfast. My Dad would wake up at 430 in the morning to drive over an hour to get to work. He was willing to live 45 miles from work so we could live close to our extended family and attend seminary during school hours. When we lived in Freeport, IL my Dad "cooked" Sunday dinner for us. We had fresh popped popcorn and peanut butter and jelly crackers. We would usually sit there eating our dinner while watching 'Life Goes On'. My Dad traveled a lot for work. He would always bring us presents home from his travels. I remember getting peanuts, pretzels, soaps and shampoos, a shower cap.... Sometimes we would get real things also. For awhile I liked to collect coins from the various countries that he visited, so he would give me some leftover change or paper money. My Dad has always been a lot of fun. I love to play card games, go on walks, watching my Dad show off his lastest gadgets, or sitting with him while he watches one of his billion court shows that he watches. My Dad is also a great Grandpa to my kids. They love wrestling with him when he visits, or using his 'toys', taking rides with him on the lawn mower, and going out to dinner. We always look forward to his visits and phone calls. Love you Dad.

I also think my kids are lucky to have Scott as their Dad. Most of the time I think they would agree. He takes the time to carpool the kids around to their various gym, school, and sports activities. Scott helps the kids with their various art projects- something that I do not do well in. Scott's Mom gave us a picture last night that Scott painted a while back. Scott was able to choose his subject and he did a wrestler. I personally don't appreciate the painting, but as Scott says, "look at the details, the shading, the blending". I guess I just don't appreciate "art". Megan appreciates that Scott will give her a bath, since I make her take a shower. Scott also reads a book to Blake and Megan at bedtime. Scott also teaches them how to handle losing. For example, when we play games as a family I usually let the kids win; Not Scott, he feels they should learn to play and if they lose to him oh well, they will try harder next time. Scott also teaches them to enjoy beautiful scenery, and explains things at the Science Museum that I would normally just keep walking past. Ben likes that Scott is a skilled lego builder and helps him with difficult instructions. Madison likes it that Scott enjoys camping outdoors. If it were up to me, we would never go- but Scott knows how to set everything up and helps the kids have a great time. Blake thought it was great that Scott took him to buy doughnuts- it is very easy to please a 2 year old. Everything considered, I think the kids and I were all lucky to have the Dad's we do.

Dads are great! Steve will appreciate the art, for sure.

Well, not sure it could be called art but it's nice to pretend! Steve is the real artist!

Not only is Marc a great dad but a great uncle too. I appreciate him always taking the time to find out what was going on. I always felt he was interested...and also interested in hiding alarm clocks under our beds, set to go off at 3am...good times :)
