Nauvoo Trip

We (Me, Madison, Ben, and Megan) left for Denver Monday (June 30th) so we could drive to Illinois with her family. Scott had to work and Jen only had 4 available seats so Blake stayed home. We got into Denver around 11pm and began our journey to Nauvoo. Jennifer kept saying that we would take turns sitting in the front seat to keep Scott G. awake while he drove through the night. However, each time we stopped Jennifer climbed back into the back and fell right back asleep. So it ended up that Scott G and I talked through the night. We arrived near Independence, Missouri around 8am Tuesday morning and had breakfast before going to Liberty Jail. Liberty Jail was neat. We went as a family 15 years ago, and not much has changed since. The kids were surprised at how thick the prison walls were and how many people could fit inside. After visiting the Liberty Jail we went to Adam-Ondi-Omen and walked around a bit. At the farm there they have some really beautiful cows. I don't believe I have ever seen a beautiful cow before- but these were perfect looking. Adam-Ondi-Omen also hadn't really changed much since my last visit. It is really just green rolling hills. The kids were glad to be able to get out of the car and run around a bit in the grass. From there we began our 4 hour remaining drive to Nauvoo. Unfortunately, so many roads were flooded and that added an extra 2 hours onto our drive. It was really interesting to be driving on a road and then suddenly the rest of the road was washed away or still flooded with water from the recent heavy rain. Finally we reached our hotel and were relieved to see it really hadn't changed much from our last visit. We were the first from our family to arrive. Mom and Dad's car (with Karl, Kyle, and MaryEllen) came around 10pm and Tiffany's family came in around 1am Wednesday morning.
