Tuesday afternoon I noticed that Blake had a few welts on his backside and stomach. Thinking it was ringworm I called and made an appointment with the Doctor. We showed Merrilee the spots when we picked up the kids from school and she said that it didn't look like any ringworm she had seen. Another friend, Cindy, said that it looked like the welts her boys got when they had strep throat- great. By the time we got to our doctors appointment Blake was sprouting several more welts on both legs and bottom, ranging from 2x2 to pencil top eraser size. Dr. Cabey took one look at it and size he was having an allergic reaction. Huh? No one in the family has allergies, why suddenly Blake. We made a little list and it could be triamenic (had a half dose early in the morning for a cough, never had cough medicine before. And now he will never have it again!), or a few treat from preschool- boysenberry currant pastry. I am betting it is the medicine. He needs to take Benedryl for the next few days to make sure whatever caused it is out of the system. Glad that it was a fairly minor allergic reaction, and if he is going to be allergic to something at least it is something that tastes horrible like cough syrup. (The picture is an hour after taking the Benedryl when a lot of the spots were shrinking or gone).
