Horseback Riding

This morning I took Ben horseback riding to earn his sportsman belt loop. This was originally supposed to be a Bear (scouting) field trip, but since Ben is the only Bear the 2 Weeblos came along also. We are lucky enough that our Weeblo leaders parents have horses that we could use for the scouts.

Since it has been over 100 degrees lately we got up early (7am) and hoped for slightly less hot weather. After a few minutes of being outside we were all sweating, but the boys didn't notice it too much since they were having a great time. We learned how to measure horses, feed them, approach them, the different color names and breeds, etc... Then the boys were able to ride around the yard a few times. Ben was hoping for more of a running pace but his horse chose to walk. I think it was better that way for his first horse ride I didn't want to see anyone fall. Ben had a great time learning about the horses and how to ride, I just hope he remembers something to share at pack meeting. Usually when asked what they did to earn a belt loop or award at pack meeting the boys say 'I don't know', or 'I don't remember'. Well, hopefully Ben remembers this field trip.
