This past summer I noticed that Megan's legs were looking very bowed. Scott said I was just imagining things, but Tiffany agreed with me. So, at the girls doctor appointment I asked Dr. I about it, and he said that yes they were bowing. So, we got a referral to an orthopedic specialist who did x-rays and said that Megan's legs have a 10% bow. Not sure how they get the percent- but we know it isn't good. Also on the x-ray they found a cyst up near the top of the tibia close to the knee joint. The doctor wanted to make sure it wasn't anything serious so he had Megan do an MRI. This past Friday was the MRI. The procedure lasted an hour. Megan listened to music through headphones and even sang (very loudly) for a bit. Glad she could enjoy herself. Scott and I just sat and watched, for the whole hour. I wish they had told me to bring a book or magazine to pass the time. We did enjoy listening to Megan sing though. The worst part for Megan was getting the IV put into her hands. The nurse had trouble getting the vein so Megan was not very happy.
Today we went back to the doctor for the results- all clear. Just some scar tissue that won't interfere with her growth plate, and is not in an area likely to break due to weakness. Next up we head to the genetic specialist to rule out any cause for bow-leggedness- although we already know it runs in Scott's family the doctor wants to make sure it is nothing else. Then we go back to the orthopedic doctor in 6 months for repeat xrays to look at the bowing again and decide on treatment then. Here is to hoping that Megan grows 3 inches before then so her legs will straighten on their own.
