Sacajawea

Today was the 5th graders White House Tea Party. Not sure why it is named that since it isn't about the White House, there is no tea, and it isn't a party. Should be named famous people in American History. Madison chose to do her report/project on Sacajawea. Other classmates were Walt Disney, Mia Hamm, Lebron James, Hershey..... Several people I could easy say didn't belong in the American History but since I am not in charge can't complain. Madison decided Saturday night to ask Marita if she could make her an Indian costume by Tuesday night. I told Madison that we could just cut a paper grocery bag into an Indian vest like we did in her kindergarten class. It was a big NO- I guess what was cool in kindergarten isn't in 5th grade. Marita came through for Madison and made a great Indian costume for her to wear today.

Blake, Mia, and I got to Madison's class shortly after the project show-off started (what is a better word here??). Madison had even removed her shoes for a more realistic costume she said. Hard to believe that Sacajawea had bare feet for her journey through mountainous/woody areas. I told Madison that wearing her flip flops would be more realistic, but she didn't believe me. I had a great time wandering through her class testing the other kids knowledge on their subject choices. Some were more prepared then others, glad Madison was in the more prepared group.
