Today is the end of fall break. I have enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere-- but sometimes it got a little to relaxed (and loud). Scott had a free night at a Marriott hotel that expires in December, so we decided to head to Scottsdale for a mini vacation. Usually when we go to a hotel, and it is rare, we stay in Best Western or similar. Nice hotel, fits my cheap budget, and looks older. This Marriott really impressed the kids: valet parking outside, an elevator (you would think that my kids had never been in an elevator before by how they acted!), heated pool, etc. Since we don't fit very well in one hotel room anymore, and because Macy is still working on sleeping through the night we planned on coming home.
When we got to the hotel we went up to our room and saw that it was a 2 room suite. The kids were bouncing off the walls excited by how nice it was. Some fighting (and crying) over who got which bed and who was to sleep with who came next. Then Macy decided to take her first three steps!!! And that had everyone laughing and smiling again.
We put on our swimsuits and got on the elevator to head to the pool. Blake couldn't believe there was a mirror in this elevator and the other kids were loudly talking about how nice the elevator was. We went down a floor and the doors opened to show a nicely dressed couple waiting to get on the elevator to head down. They politely (sort-of) said that they would get another elevator. We had room for another 4-5 adults in the elevator; guess 5 kids was too much for them.
We got off the elevator and headed to the pool. We passed a pool table (oh's and ah's by all), 2 tiger statues (more oh's and ah's by Blake), and went down another three million stairs (by Blake's count)before reaching the pool. It was an okay pool. No slide, no deep end, not really heated, and only 2 other kids in the pool. The kids were unimpressed. I took Blake out into the pool to get used to the water. He cried and fought that he couldn't touch the bottom and that we need to go back to the stairs. I kept pulling him around the pool while he cried. The water was up to my waist. He finally put his feet down and realized that he could touch the bottom and started laughing. Loved the pool after that. We stayed outside for about 45 minutes then Madison, Ben, and Megan were ready to head back in and have dinner. Thursday night we talked about where we should have dinner and everyone wanted Costco. Well, Blake wanted McDonald's but he lost the vote.
The North Scottsdale Costco is very nice. I have never seen so much cheese in one store before. We walked around collecting samples from the various carts- they were our appetizers before dinner. Then everyone got to pick two things off the Costco menu. Again, happy, excited talking by all. Of course no one finished their food since the portions are big, but everyone was happy and full. We headed back to the hotel and Macy and I went home. Tomorrow Scott is taking the kids to see a movie before heading home. They have the movie t-shirt so they can get free popcorn, and everyone took their drink cups, so the grand total for this 'vacation' is $25.00 (free movie tickets thanks to the dentist). Got to love that.
