Tonight was the day I have been looking forward to for the past 2 years. We started the day with a final meeting at school to finish filling out paperwork and do a practice run through of our graduation. A waste of time in my opinion, but it was nice to see my friends again after not seeing anyone for the past few weeks. We had to be back at school at 6pm for the official ceremony. The class voted to wear white gowns. We walked into the auditorium to Celine Dion's song, 'These are the Special Times", and left the auditorium to "Eye of the Tiger". I really liked the Celine Dion's song, but could have done without Eye of the Tiger. But in this case it was majority rules. We (our group of 35) sat up on stage and listened to the Dean of our school, listened to a few kids read a poem, watched our slide show, then we did our speech of 100 words. Here is my speech:
Thank you to my husband Scott for watching our kids, helping with homework, and putting up with me when I thought I was schizophrenic, about to have a seizure, my supposed annuerism, my possible brain tumor, and for my general hypochondria over any disease process that we were studying. Thanks to my kids for not complaining about the extra chores and missed activities. Thanks to Marita, Tiffany, and Lali who helped watch my kids while I was at school. Thank you to my part time group- we are the best.
After everyone was "pinned" we did our candle lighting pledge, and it was over. Nursing school was a great experience for me- life changing. I meet so many nice people, gained lifelong friendships, and learned more than I have in my previous 30 years. So many memories to remember and treasure forever.
