Packing for a trip is always more exciting then unpacking after the trip. We spent the week leading up to the trip packing our bags. We were planning on taking 12 bags with us, 2 strollers (big ones), and a car seat. Luckily my Mom had 2 more booster seats and a play pen waiting for us to use. Trying to get 7 people packed for a 14 day trip, and not wanting to check any baggage was a little crazy. First off we didn't know how we would get our family to the airport. Trying to find someone to take us to the airport that had room for 8 (driver included) and all our luggage was going to be a challenge. We looked into renting a van or using an airport service when our good friends the Craig's bought an 8-seater van. An answer to a prayer. (Unfortunately an answer to our prayer meant that their previous van would break down and they would have to buy a new car. But, it worked out great for us :) ).
So, after the ward party on Dec. 16th we loaded up into the Craig's van and were off to the airport. Wait, had to go back home to get Scott's computer. Then we were off- wait, Scott forgot something else. Made it to the airport in one piece and we got ready to go upstairs to the waiting area. But, I couldn't find my phone. I left it in the Craig's van. Matt was nice enough to turn around and come back to the airport to bring me my phone. After getting the phone back we headed to the elevator to go upstairs. Trying to cram all of us (and 2 big strollers and 13 bags) into a small airport elevator was not fun. The door of the elevator was open so long that it started beeping, then a few minutes later the doors started closing around Scott's arms and backpack even though Scott was still in the doorway. Scott quickly shoved the stroller into Ben and Megan and the doors closed and we went upstairs. The rest of the trip we did not go into the same elevator. We decided that splitting up was a lot easier.
Our trip was off to a rough start. After going though security - which wasn't too bad at midnight- we made our way to the airplane gate. The plane ride was uneventful. Blake fell asleep before we even took off. Macy fell asleep just after that. Megan and Ben watched TV for a bit before falling asleep. Scott, Madison, and I stayed up most of the night. Luckily we were on delta and everyone had their own TV to watch.
We landed in Atlanta at 6am eastern time and started loading our things into my Mom and Dad's 2 cars. Once everything is loaded we leave. Wait- my Dad's truck battery died. At the point I am thinking we are a little bad luck when traveling. We get my Dad's truck started and off we go on our 7 hour drive to Orlando. The drive is quick and uneventful. Most of the kids slept a lot of the drive. We get to Disney around 2pm and begin checking in. Before we left, we did the online check in to make it easier. Unfortunately, they don't have record of our online check in so we have to take the next 45 minutes to check in.
After checking in we head up to our rooms to drop off our stuff then we were heading to the Magic Kingdom for a few hours. We rode dumbo, the carousel, small world, tea party, Winnie the pooh, peter pan, and splash mountain. We had a crazy dinner that involved us not getting all our food, Blake having diarrhea, and a few of my kids in tears. But all that was forgotten when the splash mountain line time was only 5 minutes. Not very many people want to ride that ride at 10pm. We left the park after that. We left at that same time that thousands of others were leaving too. It was crazy. Decided at that point never to leave a park just as a parade was ending. Made it back to the hotel around midnight. Scott stayed with the kids and I headed out to Walmart with my Mom and Dad and Jennifer. I never knew how busy a Walmart was after midnight. But, I guess no one sleeps at Disney- it is a bit like Vegas. We left Walmart and went back to the hotel. Wait, we forgot the chips and cookies we were supposed to take to Lyric's house the next day. Jen and I run into a 7/11 and buy a few chips. Not the best place to be at one in the morning. Finally we get back to our hotel and head to bed. Wait, Macy is waking up to eat. Perfect timing. Fortunately church starts at 1pm so we have time to sleep in the next day.
