We (Us and the Craig's) left Friday afternoon for the cooler temperatures above Payson. We left Mesa at 111 degrees and gladly watched the thermometer steadily drop until we reached the campsite at 75 degrees. It felt great. Everyone hopped out the car and walked around the campsite. Patches ran out of her crate and got busy exploring and digging everywhere. Since it was after 6pm we quickly set up our campsite. Good thing too since the rain started shortly after we finished setting up. I had made sure the kids packed jeans and a jacket for such an occasion. Unfortunately, I did not do the same for me. When the rain started, and the temperature dropped into the 60's, I was a little chilly. Luckily, Scott let me use his jacket and that helped break the wind. During the rain Scott worked on cooking our dinner- the hotdogs cooked quickly, the hamburgers for the adults took forever. Our burgers were done after the kids finished eating and had started asking for s'mores. Funny thing happened that night- the kids asked to go to bed. How often does that happen- Never in my house. Matt mentioned that it would get light around 5am- I didn't believe him. Or maybe I was in denial. Either way I woke up to a light morning, thinking it was 7, and it was 5am. It was light enough at that time that I could read my book while the rest of the tent slept on. Everyone else in my tent woke up around 6am.
We got busy changing, getting breakfast ready, and cleaning up the campsite. The kids played bocce ball, and horse shoes. After breakfast I looked at the time... 8:07. How sad is that?? We finished cleaning up the site and then Scott set up targets to practice shooting Matt's bbgun at. The kids did fairly well- even hitting the targets a few times. When it was my turn I came close to hitting the target. Scott said I should be holding the gun differently- but since I don't like admitting when he is right, I continued on my next turn with the same results= miss. I hate admitting when I am wrong.
After we finished shooting we left the campsite to do a little fishing at Woods Canyon Lake. We arrived their after 10am, and the people next to us said that fishing was starting to slow down. Scott and I talked about it, and agreed we would stay for 2 hours. Well, the first hour was spent waiting for Scott to get his fishing pole ready. Earlier I had wished that we had more then one fishing pole. After waiting forever for Scott to get his one pole ready, I was very glad we only had one pole. A great example of being happy with what you have.
After about an hour we were done fishing, especially since we didn't catch any fish. Thankfully the Craig's didn't catch any fish or else we would never hear the end of that. We began our drive home and watched the thermometer steadily increase to 111 degrees when we reached the valley. What a welcome home.
