The zoo is a perfect place to spend a summer day. Where else in this country do people wake up their kids at 6am, and leave their house 30 minutes later ,to enjoy the early zoo hours in 100 degree weather? We left about 6:45 this morning and I noticed that it was already 95 degrees. Great, at least I didn't take a shower first. But since the zoo is free for kids this summer at least I only had to pay $16 to walk around and sweat like I was in a sauna. When Laurali suggested that we go to the zoo I agreed to join because: a- my kids would have fun; b- walking the 2 miles around the zoo might help me lose a pound or two (not sure if that happened, but I think I did sweat off a pound or two).
We started by seeing the giraffes, tiger, lion, rhinos, camel, baboons.... Do you see a trend?? All these animals have their natural habitat in the desert areas. The Phoenix zoo didn't have panda bears, polar bears, penguins, etc.. But we did get to see a cockroach- how often do you see that? Only every day. Ben said this cockroach was special because it was a little bigger. Maybe next time we have a sewer roach in the house I will call the zoo and see if they need another roach for their exhibit.
Just when the kids were reaching their breaking points, I had reached mine a little earlier, we found the new water park. It was great. There was a cave, water slides, a stream of water, and lots of water spraying around. The kids had a blast, plus it allowed us to cool off. After we cooled off we headed out to see the rest of the zoo. We went to the elephant exhibit where the employee let the kids throw carrots to the elephant to eat- we enjoyed that. After awhile the kids became hot and sweaty, but no fear we were very close to the other water feature of the zoo. This one had a small pirate ship (not in any water, just on the grass) and a small area with a water pad. The kids looked around and said they preferred the other one better. Laurali and I said that they needed to try out this park, and maybe they would like it. After about 2 minutes most of the kids were complaining so we headed back to the other water area and played another 30 minutes before leaving.
