Yea!! A lazy morning. We decided that at 11am we would drive down to Charleston to visit Kyle. Since I had already packed the night before, it left the morning wide open to relax. Scott and Ben headed back outside for more shooting, the rest of us stayed inside and lazed around. That was nice.
Kyle's house is a 2 hour drive from my parents. We headed out just after 11am and made it to Kyle's before 2pm (Road construction slows you down). We quickly dropped off our stuff and headed for the beach. Kyle's place is just a few minutes from a public beach. We spent an hour looking for sea-shells. They weren't hard to find. Everywhere you step there is probably 5 shells under your feet. They were only small shells- we were looking for good sized shells. We waded in the ocean, enjoying the warm water. I love how the Atlantic Ocean is so much warmer than the pacific. We also enjoyed how this ocean is sea-weed free. Why can't the pacific be like this? After being a little discouraged we headed back to the car. On our way- hidden in the grass- I found a huge pile of big seashells. Yea!! Thank you to whoever put them there.
We left the beach and headed to Fort Moultrie. The original fort Moutlrie was a fort that was built in 1776 to help protect Charleston during the Revolutionary War. That one burnt down, and was replaced in the 1790's with the current fort. They have of course added on to the fort and made some changes, but it was still a great place to visit. The kids enjoyed seeing how big the original cannon's were- the cannon balls were huge. I don't know how people could lift them. I remember reading that young boys were usually the ones in charge of lighting the cannons since the death risk was so high. Nice- I guess it adds a new meaning to women and children first.
After we toured the fort we went back to Kyle's to get ready for a picnic dinner. We went to a new park and had just opened underneath the suspension bridge. We enjoyed our 5 Guys burgers and fries, then walked the pier and played at the park. After awhile I was itching (literally- do they purposely breed mosquitoes in the south?) to leave. We went back to Kyle's for dessert. Went to bed around midnight. I love vacation.
